Thomas Carlyle was by his own definition “a bringer-back of men to reality.” This, no doubt accounts for the popularity of these volumes. Many, many editions of these volumes have been published for the last 174 years and this set is among the most gorgeous. These are three red hardcover volumes measuring 7”X4½” in near-fine condition. Blind stamp of coat of arms and gilded signature of Thomas Carlyle on front cover of each volume. All volumes are tight, clean, unmarked, undamaged with no foxing. Pages, in fact, appear to have a linen content. Period owner’s signature is in each volume. This is a near-bright set —magnificent!
Truly a worthy set for the scholar/collector/reader.
